Crystal Cruises is paying $60,000 a month while is performs feasibility tests on the S.S. United States. Why? To see if it can turn the old ocean liner into a unique, modern luxury ship. Even if the refurbishment costs almost as much as a new ship, it still seems like a good investment. A luxury version of the S.S. United States would be unique at sea. The long uncluttered lines and the history are the opposite of the cookie cutter ships coming online now. It is a niche, but Crystal is a niche. We hope it works and we look forward to sailing on the classic ship.

Crystal announces unique expansion

Crystal Cruises is about to change what they do. The luxury cruise line will still provide one of the best experiences at sea. However, they will soon extend their brand and service to the air.

The company ordered a 787 Dreamliner for delivery in 2017. The plane will be configured to carry guests in fully reclining international business class seats. The goal is to provide their unique luxury service to destinations where the major carries no longer service with direct flights.

Crystal's expansion also includes traditional cruise ships, a yacht and a river cruise vessel. This is all good news for fans of Crystal and those who like luxury travel. Crystal has shown great quality and consistency for years. There is no reason to think that their new airline and new experiences won't be a great success.

The sale will be offered on select sailings for both the Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony and requires the "child" to share a cabin with two adults. As with many promotions, there is always fine print, but this seems like a great value for families looking for a good cruise deal.
